Amelia May

Board Chair

Amelia May hails from Cleveland, Ohio, where she grew up in a family of artists. She studied visual arts and art history throughout her youth, spending several stints in Southern France. Highlights were studying poetry there under Gustaf Sobin, and print-making with her father, Ralph Woehrman. Amelia double-majored in French and History at The College of William and Mary and received her MA in French Civilization from Penn State. She worked briefly in Paris, and then pursued her law degree at George Mason University School of Law while working fulltime for an international non-profit organization. This work allowed her to travel extensively in Africa. She is now an attorney handling family and employment law, as well as criminal and civil litigation. She has worked on Prince William County’s Strategic Plan, served as Vice President of the Committee of 100, and recently joined the board of ACTS, where she has taken the role of Governance Chair. Amelia is in her second year with the Arts Council Board, and serves as its chair. Striving to streamline all the functions of this Council, Amelia’s hope is to pursue local projects in public art.
